Calvary Baptist Church Statement on COVID-19

We would like to acknowledge all of the thoughtful questions and concerns that have been sent to us as we respond to the spread of COVID-19 in our state. The feedback gives us the opportunity to discuss questions and concerns with church leadership and city, county, and state health officials.

CBC has been monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) as it has spread around the world, in our country, and in our state. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides the most current information and updates. CBC is aware that Governor Whitmer designated Michigan under a state of emergency. CBC is also aware that there have been recent cases of individuals testing positive for the Coronavirus in southern Michigan.

We are reminded in Deuteronomy 31:8  “And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.”  God is in control and this current health crisis has not taken Him by surprise. Our trust is in Him. It is fair to say that the narrative in the media has increased the hysteria about this issue. However, CBC has been doing its due diligence to ensure that the wisest decision is made concerning services and programs hosted by our ministry and not be driven by fear, but also not be foolish regarding a very serious situation.

1) How does the current health situation affect Calvary’s services and programs?

  • At this time, CBC will be cooperating with the governor’s mandate to ban all gatherings of over 250 people and the recommendation to not assemble groups of over 100 people.
  • We will have our normal Sunday Morning Worship Service via live streaming format online ONLY. There will be no service to attend. You can access the service at 10:15 AM here:

https://www.cbcmidland.org/live-webcast/

https://www.facebook.com/cbcmidland

  • We have suspended our Sunday school, Sunday evening programs including AWANA, and UPWARD Basketball until further notice.
  • LIFE Groups will continue to meet as hosts feel it is safe and reasonable depending upon size and location.
  • We will continue to evaluate things weekly and keep you posted as things change,

2) What is being done to accommodate health concerns at the church going forward when services resume?

  • We have established a higher level of awareness as it relates to cleanliness and sanitation during recent weeks. Extra cleaning is being done to sanitize to a hospital-grade level of cleaning throughout the facility.
  • Many hand sanitizer stations have been placed and stocked throughout the facility, we encourage you to use them.
  • We will adapt the frequency and serving of Communion until further notice.
  • We recommend that you give your tithe and offering online. We will not pass offering plates during our services, but we will have them available on the way out of the sanctuary at the conclusion of the services.

3) What groups of people are discouraged from attending when services resume?

  • Anyone over the age of 65 is strongly discouraged from attending. In addition, anyone with a medical condition such as an autoimmune disease, heart disease, diabetes, lung disease, etc. is at a higher risk.
  • If you are not feeling well or recently recovering from illness, we ask you to stay home.
  • If you have had a fever, do not come until you are fever free for at least 24 hours (with no medicine administered). A fever is considered 100.4 or above.
  • Please do not come if you have not been eating and drinking well for at least 24 hours and/or until appetite returns.
  • If you feel lethargic, please stay home to rest.
  • If you have experienced vomiting, please have them remain at home until there is no vomiting for at least 24 hours; be sure you are eating and drinking well before attending church.

4) How can I watch the service online if I am unable to attend?

Live streaming of our worship service can be accessed either on our website or through our facebook page:

https://www.cbcmidland.org/live-webcast/

https://www.facebook.com/cbcmidland

5) How do I give online if I am unable to attend in person?

You can give electronically through our website here; https://www.cbcmidland.org/#give/

You can also mail your tithe or offering to the church office.

6) What if I have a need or am aware of someone in need during this time?

Please know that we will continue to be available to minister to you and your families. If you have a spiritual, financial, physical or other need – please contact the church office, your deacon, or one of the pastors. We are here for you and want to help.

A pastor will be in the building every day during the week if you have questions, concerns or needs.

We will, of course, continue to monitor this situation and will be in communication with you if there are any changes.

Thank you for your patience as we navigate a dynamic situation.
