Upward Basketball

The purpose of Upward Basketball at Calvary Baptist Church is to help children build character and grow in their understanding and enjoyment of basketball and their knowledge of God. Upward is different than most community leagues in several ways. All players are evaluated individually and then placed on a team. Teams are arranged to provide a balanced, competitive league (no “all-star” teams). And coaches, parents, and referees all work together to encourage the player’s development.

When your child plays Upward Basketball, he/she will be able to:

Practice and play a game every week
Get equal playing time
Learn techniques to improve his/her basketball skills
Receive special recognition awards after every game
Develop new friendships

We want children to…

Learn fundamental basketball. Our coaches and referees have been trained to teach basic skills to children new to basketball and work to improve the skills of experienced children.
Build character. Sportsmanship and encouragement are both taught and modeled. Each week the team
learns
a Bible verse during practice.
Learn about God’s love for them and their relationship with Him.

Have FUN! Every player is introduced before the game, is given equal playing time during the game, and receives an award after every game.
